BEGINNING RIDERS PROGRAM
Start date TBD
6 week session
1.5 hours per week
At Iron Horse Performance, we want to introduce beginner riders the basics of horseback riding in a safe and enjoyable learning environment. Our instructors and horses are selected specifically to address the needs of new riders. We have two levels where riders learn the fundamentals of horsemanship - how to handle horses/ponies, proper care (grooming), lesson preparation and completion (tacking up/untacking), and of course, riding.
Beginners will learn the following in small groups:
Riders will be able to groom/tack up with little assistance and be able to ride at the walk on their own.
Riders will be able to groom/tack up completely on their own, and will be able to ride at the walk/trot confidently on their own.
Riders will receive feedback from their coach at the end of each level, and suggest next steps to improve rider skillset. Riders will need to successfully participate in the Beginner Sessions in order to move on to weekly lessons.
Please note the following requirements for new riders: an ASTM approved helmet. We suggest riders purchasing their own helmet for a secure, safe fit. Also, riders are recommended to wear long pants, along with weather-appropriate clothing suited to allow movement. Riders will need a boot with a 1" heel to secure their foot in the stirrups and those with long hair should wear it tied back in a ponytail or hairnet.
If you have questions about the Beginning Riders Program, riding attire or equipment, please do not hesitate to ask!
Lesson prices include HST. Prior to the start of a session, lesson payments should be made in full and can be sent by e-transfer to .
